I had a week of leisure time to catch up on a bit of reading as my work contracted ended on 30th April. So.. I went to the library to pick up a few books one afternoon after my driving lesson. I was searching for "The Diary of Anne Frank", but I couldn't find it. Just when I was about to walk away in disappointment, this book caught my eye. I am not sure what exactly got me interested, could be the lilac tree, could be the curiosity I had as to why such a book appeared on that shelf. So, I picked up this book, and started reading the excerpt. The excerpt was well written, and it drew my attention right away and there and then, I decided to borrow this.

I took about 3 days to finish reading this book. The language in the book is simple, but what got me hooked was the storyline, the suspense created and the rich history presented in the book. It is a true story depicting the life of a Jewish girl during WWI. The heartbreaks, the anxiety, the emotions, the cruelty of war.. They were just so strongly portrayed in the book and that made it hard to put it down.

I will not spoil this book for you but, all I can say is that reading this book has given me hope. It is a proof that miracles do happen in real life, and.. even in the darkest of times, there will always be hope and light. The book also portrays the power of true love, how it gets people through the hardship, how it's hard to break apart despite all odds. It was a really inspirational read for me. The life of a brave girl who survived the war and the heartbreak of losing her loved ones, and who was fortunate enough to be able to live happily ever after with the one she loved. If you're interested in historical recounts, and wartime stories, this could be one of the books that may interest you.
